ANNUAL THEME: BE THE LIGHT!
Our theme this year will center around the “Be the Light!" We will highlight difference ways that we can emulate the Light of Christ each month this year and provide opportunities for you to continue the conversation at home with your child(ren).
DAILY PRAYER
Teachers begin and end each day with a prayer or a moment of reflection as a reminder that all are in the presence of God. Each class prays in thanksgiving before meals and snacks. Students share prayer intentions and additionally pray for vocations. All faculty and staff meetings begin with prayer.
SCHOOL MASS SCHEDULE
Mass is celebrated as a school community weekly at 8:30 AM on Wednesday in St. Michael Church. Mass days may change for certain feast days, Holy Days of Obligation, and for special community celebrations. Please join us in this celebration of our faith.
SACRAMENTAL PROGRAM
The sacramental life of Catholic children is an important component of our religion program. Preparation for two sacraments, Reconciliation and Eucharist, form the core of our religion program in Grade 2. Parents are required to be active partners in the preparation of their children for these sacraments. The sacraments are only conferred on students baptized in the Roman Catholic tradition. Baptismal certificates must be on file in the office. Teachers in grades K-3 plan a religious retreat as a staff each year.
SERVICE PROJECTS
The stewardship program for students in Kindergarten through Grade 5 is an important part of the St. Michael Catholic School experience. Parents are encouraged to guide their children to participate from their own resources such as allowances or small jobs around the house rather than subsidize their children. Service to others is a prime Christian virtue that can be incorporated and cultivated at any age. stewardship envelope with a small gift of either prayer, service, or alms. It will be our goal to grow this virtue in our students through a variety of opportunities throughout the year.
CATECHESIS OF THE GOOD SHEPHERD
Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is a reflective-based program of religious formation that helps a child to further develop his/her relationship with God in a developmentally appropriate way. The program is rooted in Sacred Scripture, the Liturgy, and Prayer. Children meet in small groups along with a catechist within a prepared environment known as an atrium. Within the atrium, the 3-6 year olds are filled with wonder and awe as they joyfully encounter the Good Shepherd and discover his unconditional love and care.
Our religion program provides all of us with the opportunity to practice Catholic Christian principles in our daily lives. Religious activities include: morning prayer, prayer before meals, prayer at the end of each day, weekly Masses, Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, Stations of the Cross, May Procession and Crowning, and preparation for the sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Eucharist.
ENVIRONMENT
When you drive onto our campus, it is immediately evident that we are a Catholic school. There are signs and symbols of our faith at every turn. There are statues to remind us of Jesus, Mary, and St. Michael. Pictures and posters and prayers are posted prominently throughout our school. Our beautiful church stands tall next to our classrooms as another reminder that we are a small part of a universal faith. We are reminded visually of the real presence of the Holy Spirit dwelling among us each and every day.
“Our family feels blessed beyond measure to have found a school in our area that offers our children an atmosphere emphasizing academic excellence in a spiritually nurturing environment. Not only have our sons grown exponentially in their Christian faith formation but also the entire family has experienced a renewal of our faith which will surely have a positive impact for years to come.” -The Martin Family
